Hackers Target Hilton HHonors Rewards Program

November 7, 2014

Numerous reports have confirmed that Hilton Hotels’ HHonors rewards program has been targeted by computer hackers in a recent security breach, leaving some members’ points and account information vulnerable.

The hackers are finding their way into HHonors member accounts to steal points and resell them online at deep discounts, according to a report and user testimonials at FlyerTalk. There are also reports of hackers stealing registered credit card information to purchase more points or book accommodations at Hilton properties.

One report claims that a Canadian man lost 250,000 points which were redeemed for hotel stays in addition to the purchase of additional points using his stored credit-card information. While Hilton is tight-lipped on the matter, with no official statements or announcements regarding the hack, it has reportedly implemented a new CAPTCHA system to improve security and is replenishing points that users claim to have been stolen.
