First Data Introduces Beacon Product for Mobile Loyalty

Atlanta-based payment technology provider First Data has introduced a mobile loyalty product, called Perka Beacon, to benefit small- and medium-sized retailers.

Much like the beacon technologies that larger retailers are implementing, the Perka Beacon allows smaller businesses that run the Perka mobile loyalty platform to reap the benefits of customer recognition technology. First Data touts the device as a way for retailers to increase customer engagement and provide a faster, more personalized shopping experience.

The technology works by placing the beacons near the entrance to a store and then syncing them with the Perka mobile loyalty program. The beacon will then check customers into the store using Bluetooth Low Energy technology, which allows the merchant to instantly greet customers by name and deliver rewards in real time at point-of-sale.

“By connecting merchants and consumers in a seamless way at the point of sale, the Perka solution enables even the smallest store to design a customized marketing and loyalty program,” Guy Chiarello, First Data president, said in a press release.

The Perka beacon supports iOS and Android smartphone devices.
