Alaska Air Announces Program Enhancements for 2015
Alaska Air has announced changes to its Mileage Plan frequent flyer program for 2015 including increased mileage bonuses.
There are four class-of-service bonus increases, which all take effect on January 1, 2015:
• First class mileage bonus increases from 50% to 75%
• Refundable coach increases from 25% to 50%
• Discounted coach increases from 0% to 50%
• Discounted coach increases from 0% to 25%
Recent program overhauls by Delta and United have shifted the status quo of airline loyalty programs, favoring revenue-based models, and many people believe it’s only a matter of time before all other airlines follow suit. Alaska Air has rejected this idea, with the program changes increasing mileage payout for those buying higher-priced tickets without penalizing the majority of flyers who buy low-cost fare.
"As other airlines move to revenue-based programs that have the potential of diluting the rewards earned for the average passenger, we are continuing to offer our same great mileage-based plan while increasing bonuses for customers who purchase our more flexible fares,” an Alaska Air spokesman said in a press release.
